I'm keeping my eyes open for smaller ones, and/or cooler growing, so maybe someday

Thank You, Philippe...I really appreciate your kind comment. It has large blooms about 5 cm and I was hoping it would be flatter and the tip of the petals would not rufle...but I think this is just because it has just opened its blooms...maybe in a week it will flatten and right itself. I like the form of this flower.

Thanks in advance.
Janice
if you grow it in a basket:
you line it with a bed of coconut fibers, then curl the roots to fit inside the basket(make sure to achor the bottom part of the plant to the basket with a wire) and sprinkle it with charcoal, lava rock, sponge rock and bark, hang it a foot away from the window
spray it damp every morning
weekly weakly fertilizer

but you can also do a vase culture:

find a vase or a glass jar that will fit your plant bareroot and place it inside the glass...once a week soak it for 5 minutes in fertilizer mix
and every morning spray it damp with water

or if you have read Ray's S/H method:

it is the easiest way of growing vandas...but make a note never to let the roots touch water in the forst two months and have a hotmatt under the plant(vandas do not like cold = indoors with AC tend to cool the water to a chill)

* note: Vandas can withstand up to 105F in the summers but ideally it must be only 80F all year round= at night it can withsatnd 55F...but ideally nightime should always be 65F
humidity at 50% and above
small oscillating fans on both sides of the windows in the morning is fine

Very beautifull V. Rothschildiana! Congrats for the plant and the success with S/H! As others here, I also tried once Vandas in S/H without any success... I grow them now without substrate in wooden baskets but cover the whole basket and roots with Tillandsia usneoides... Looks nicer and help to keep humidity around the roots, which also grow much better this way!

Thank you so much. These are larger Vandas so I think I am going to go the basket route and I do like the options you have given. When I do "basket" them (new verb form) I will post pics.

Thank You, Ramón! I will try to use Tillandsia usneoides in some of my Vnadas in a basket...my success with S/H was due to a tip from Ray: heat matt(and never let the roots touch water in the first few months)
@Janice: I saw the picture of that vanda ...it is large. what is the name ?
