Hey OB. Had a quick question regarding this orchid. I got this a while back as a TC for the Gastrochilus japnoicus project, and I guess it's been growing well (too tiny to tell I guess how well). Anyway, I just noticed the other day two tiny purplish nubs at the leaf bract points. Is this how spikes start on this one? I've never bloomed it, so I figured I'd ask. I'll try and take a picture, but without a macro lens, it'll be tough to capture it. Thanks

As promised, here is a pic of what I'm talking about. Left nub is tough to see, but the right is pretty visible. Hope this is a spike.

It seems you have two spikes growing...in 3 mos. you might have blooms...
I guess you must continue whatever regimen you are doing for this plant...its definitely working...you have a happy healthy plant by looking at the top little leaf and the base formation of the mature leaves

Thanks Bud. Here is a pic of the whole plant that I go the nub shot from. It's been doing just fine, but is my first true mini. Wondered if it'd ever do anything.

It's official, they are spikes as expected. There are three right now, growing surprisingly fast. Probably be another 2 months before blooms, but the excitement continues.

I have one and it grows leaves but I have never gotten it to bloom. It is putting out lots of roots right now. Can you tell me what you do for the winter rest? Yours looks great! I like how tidy your leaves are. Mine grows kind of crazy and the leaves are kind of all over the place. I think mine is getting more light too. It's leaves are a lot more purple than yours. Thanks!

Nothing really special. I was worried about "resting" it too much, so I just watered it every other watering (lightly misting it every so often in between), and lowered it's light a bit (which also reduced the temp I'm sure). the water change probably reduced the fert levels as well, but I didn't alter that directly. That's about it. Nothing crazy.
