Very kool!! I love the colour of the lip, and you say they are small, that makes this one desirable to me.

Hmmm...

I don't know how much cooler San Diego is compared to the Los Angeles area (non-coastal, I live on the east side), but it doesn't stay all that warm here all year round as you know already.

I grow this outdoors all year round. Never had to bring it indoors at all.

Temperature ranges from 36 F - 100 F (2.2 C - 37.8 C)

I grow it in a clear plastic pot with large grade wood chips. Bright indirect light as per many of my Vandas.

I have not found this particular species to be problematic whatsoever.

Blooms quite freely for me too.

I'm thinking the humidity here is not that high, it may be kind of average, but I never really officially got a reading for it.

Really, many of my Vandas are grown outdoors all year round. I've only had to make an exception for Vanda luzonica which I found did better when it was kept indoors during the winter. The rest of the year, I can kick V. luzonica outdoors.

If you don't mind me asking...

How did yours go?

Cool! Yes, they are.

Are yours in spike?

East LA is much less moderate in climate than San Diego. High temps there never go over 80 in the summer. Mostly in mid 70s. In the winter low temp hovers around 50s. Here in West Hollywood it is only a few degrees warmer than in SD.
Hearing that you grow Vandas outdoors all year round gives me hope.
I have a rhynchostylis coelestis x retusa that hasn't bloomed in years. I just ordered some clay palettes. I plan to mix some coco husks and put my plant in it and see if it would flower better.

I have an Opsistylis which is a Rhynchostylis gigantea crossed with some sort of Vandopsis, not sure which one. When I purchased this, I was pretty certain they didn't get the name quite right on the label.

If I had to take a guess, it's Opsistylis Suree, or something.

I grow this outdoors all year round and it has been around for many years (I lost track exactly how long, but suffice it to say I had it prior to 2006). Blooms every spring too.

It is currently in spike, and will be in full bloom probably in the next 1 - 2 weeks.

So, I don't know if you want to take a chance and kick your Rhynchostylis hybrid outdoors or not, but it's something to try, especially if you're having a tough time with it indoors.
