Here they are:

The new root is the black dot in the middle of the photo.

The other new growth.
I am amazed that this vase thing is working after all!
I do water and feed everyday (1hr soak).
Thanks to telipogon and everyone on the OB.

(p.s. It has been only 45 days not 90 days, I can't count after 1030pm)

Glad to here about your success
Its going pretty well for me too. Guess it's been about 2 weeks now -- I'm seeing lots of new root growth, exciting for sure! I soak mine every day for up to 2 hrs and feed twice per week.

It's easy!

Its nice to hear from you again Gloria!
I took your advise for the daily soaking because initally I was only soaking once a week, and my vanda leaves were a bit wrinkley.
I too might try and increase the soaking time to 2 hrs, as summer is only around the corner.
What vandas are you growing?
I'd love to see your set up
Cheers,
Buds!

I found my vases at Walmart and Big Lots. I bring a container the same size that I have my plants in, and test the tops with it until I find the perfect size. I even found one in the aquarium section once.
I have a small catt. that wasn't looking too promising, so used a vase as experiment. The lip of the pot sat firmly on the top of the vase with water half way up the vase, but not near touching the pot. You can see the moisture in the vase. Between that and the sun, my catt. is sprouting new growth! I have truoble with not enough humidity even though I have drywells here and there. kiki-do

Hi Buds Ok gonna work on some photos then.
I would think this would work great on catts .. I've had catts in clay pots with no media at all. They did very well, grew like crazy in fact! I ended up to place back some fresh media for these catts as they went outside to summer.

I've had some limited success (good!) in the past few weeks, they're mainly new ascocendas, but I've put them in plastic pots, and do a drain and fill in the evening, about 3 hours before night time. I'd do it earlier, but it's hard when I start work at 7am, leaving the house at 6. It's hard to see, but there is some new root growth on one of the very small ascocendas, which did NOT like semi-hydro at all, after about 2 weeks, it seems to be coming back with new root growth. The larger two were already in great shape when I got them a month ago, and one is putting out a spike happily.

Humidity is around 60-80% ~75% during the day, and 60% at night. The humidistat vents at around 80% bringing it down to 60%.

I find I need a lot of air movement, or the roots which are in bad shape develop mold. So when I started it was almost like a vase, with the lid just giving enough air for the plant to come out of, but I've since removed half of the lid, and all of the lid on another, and they seem to be humid enough to be all right. Ideally I'd do the watering in the morning, but I just don't have time as is. There are hydroponic type ebb and flow systems which would be perfect, maybe 2 times a day, but that's another level of automation I don't have time or patience to implement.

The pots are the Semi-hydro from Rays, covered up the holes, and they are suspended with some Bonsai wire which I had lying around, does a pretty good job supporting them gently, it's plastic coated, and very flexible, almost plastic like.

Hi Ocelaris,
Thanks for sharing. Is that a spike I see!
I have one ascocenda in the same set up but it has only been 2 weeks, so there's not much action at the moment.

It is a spike, but I can't get credit for it, it came with it when I bought it 2 weeks ago... ok, actually, it had another spike on the other side, which died, which I was very upset about, but flipped it over, and whala! another spike on the opposite side!

This is a Princess Mikasa "pink", so hopefully it'll grow up fine. It's only been in it's new home for 2-3 weeks.

I'm just worried as my grow space is limited at the moment, I was not expecting these asc. to be as large as they are, so the flowers are shooting more of a 90* angle than straight up.. we'll see how they turn out, hopefully normal, otherwise I will have to create a new "chamber o' Orchids" strictly for Vandaceous types...
