Thanks Buds

I am busy making net curtains at the moment as the window is south west facing and will be like a green house in a few more weeks.

I have take a couple of pics of bath time you may be able to see I have made some metal clips on the yellow one to keep it steady. The most difficult part is emptying the water without disturbing them too much.

I just carefully read through this a second time. Gosh, it seems too easy be true, but I will want to give this a try as soon as I can. Sue, thanks for being brave enough for both of us

Hi So have any of you had a go at this yet?

Mine are still doing well lost a couple of flowers of the pink one but it has a new flower spike coming and one flower off the purple one but the rest are still looking ok. The grower assured me I should get a couple of months flowering of them and I am well on the way to that.

Would be interested to know if any of you gave it a try. The only answer I have found to the green algea is once they have had a good soak so the are supple I slid them out of the vase and clean it well but I am only doing that once a month.

How much lighting are you giving these plants?

I decided to give it a try. The only thing I could find at the moment was a large vase, possibly too large but at least my black basket has not fallen in.

I also have another of the same variety, and same size, which I planted like I usually do, in a wood basket with large chunks lava rock. They have been in their new homes for about 3 weeks now. It will be interesting to compare the plants in 6 months.

That's a neat looking Vanda Marilyn. What king is that? Kinda loosk like it could be some exotic variety... appears to have soft smallish leaves?

I thought I'd document my successes with the Glass Vase Method because I have elsewhere spouted off at it's benefit. My apologies if this is a repost (it is)

Basically for the last 3-4 months? I've been soaking in RO and 1 tsp of Ray's MSU formula (which is just a 13-3-15 NPK + Trace + calcium/magnesium fertilizer) and all of the roots you see sticking out of the pots are new, some are 12" long or more, and that Princess Mikasa in bloom has bloomed twice in the last 3 months. Far below the pics are of a Vanda Bensonii which has made a miraculous recovery as you can see before and after pics.

Here is the Vanda Bensonii which I've been soaking for half an hour each day, for about 3 months. The pictures above of it are from 4/26/08 and the ones below are from 4/8/08. So it does take a long time sometimes if there is no good root system, but you shouldn't see a major decline if things are going in the right direction. They should at least be staying the same or getting a tad better. By utilizing the glass vase method, you can see in the pictures above, it is working very well. It took 2 months for it to even sprout new roots! which are below, and now it is growing at an ever increasing pace. Look below the first leaves in the latest pictures (yesterday) there are two very plump new roots starting, and in the bottom of the plastic container you can see the first root that sprouted. This should be a very clear indicator of the ability of this method to produce results and save an otherwise very maltreated plant.

I don't want to imply there aren't better methods, but this method works very well for me.

To be honest I cant tell you I dont know how to check it.

The window is South West facing and I am in the North of England so they dont get direct sun until the late afternoon but it is bright there. The house is very warm and the thermometer hovers around 20-22 degrees even with out the heating and humidity around 55% but goes up to 80% when I have watered and misted.

I expect some of this goes against normal rules but for some reason they seem to love it.

I am a little nervous about the Catt and Dend Nobile which I have been assured should do well in the same conditions as my Phals but should I be watering them more?

Hi Ocelaris,
Thanks for sharing! I always enjoy reading your vanda posts! So please keep it coming..

It is so encouraging to see all your vanda thriving in the vase.

I am waiting for my Princess Mikasa blue & pink to come in the post. Have you tried growing other colour vandas apart from the blue/ purple ones?

BTW, What is the difference between your day and night temperature?

Thanks,
