Small (mini) Vanda species help

Hi,

I'm looking for small sized Vanda's, preferably not bigger than Neostylis hybrids.
Could anyone advice please as info on the internet is very contradictary.
I have Vanda pumila and Vanda tesselata 'BLUE', wich seem promising. Also Vanda parviflora seems to be a good candidate.
I prefer more or less fragrant species.
Are there any more species i could puton my list?
If possible, please include pics of plant and/or flower.

Hi Marc,

V. pumila is small but V. tessellata is not. Mine is up to one meter now.
Other "small" Vanda species that are easy to find include :
Vanda alpina, V. bensonii, V. brunnea (medium size), V. coerulescens (medium), V. cristata, V. denisoniana (medium but usually tends to have a big roots system), V. lilacina, V. pumila, V. testacea.

But there are others, depends of what species you are able to get in Belgium (but I know there a good sellers over there LOL).

I have a Vanda lamellata that is fragrant and compact ( 7 inches tall and 9 inches wide ) flowers twice a year.
The Christensonia vietnamica is small fragrant and blooms when it reaches 5 inches tall but can grow as big as 10 inches tops
They both have happy colorful flowers.
Also look for some red or orange Renantheras...

Below I listed the species I curently have, not included are the other Vandacious genera and hybrids. Many are 1 to 3 years from flowering size so it's dificult to estimate how big they will get, including their root system. V. 'Mimi Palmer' had it's first spke afew month's ago at app.1.5" tall. But I'm realy looking for the V. pumilia sized species at the moment. Any sugestions?

I think that from V. pumila 'OM10" and V. coerulescens var rubra, I know who is the seller in Germany. This seller is a very good one and have sometimes very rare species.
I was looking for informations about var rubra but I was not able to get any. It seems that this variety is not a valid name...
On the others species that you mention : V. lamellata var boxallii : big size plant, V. luzonica : big, roeblingeana : small/medium, V. tricolor alba + suavis : big size. Vanda Mimi Palmer : I don't know. When I say those are big size, I mean they can reach high size but most of those species can bloom when the plants are young if grown in good conditions.

Ascocentrum miniatum and Ascocentrum ampullaceum are both quite small. They are in the Vanda tribe. That's my 2 cents. I love these 2!

Philipe, I know some of my Vanda will get realy big so that is why I'm surching for some smaler sized species.
V. Mimi Palmer' is a hybrid with V. tesselata in his bloodline and nicely scented flowers.
I think you're right about where I buy in Germany.
V. coerulescens v. rubra should have more whitish petals and a blue lip, at least that's all what I found on it.
If you know of any trustwordy sellers in Belgium, please PM me their names, so I can look them up.

Schoenochis fragrans is the smallest vanda in the world. It's about the size of a quarter.

Already got most of the smaler vandacious species. Now I'm looking for the smallest plants of the genus VANDA. thanks

Vanda coerulescens is really a nice one. It is often confused with a similarly spelled one so be careful that you get the right one. The flowers should be a half-inch, not an inch and a half. I have been pleased with how reliably this one blooms.
