Default Mokara spike stalled

Hi everyone, I have a Mok Calyso cutting that I received a few months ago. It was topped from a mature plant. The roots are doing well with nice reddish tips and the leaves are growing nicely.

I noticed the beginning of a spike near its base a few weeks ago, but since then the spike has remained 1mm long and hasn't been growing since. Is this normal with a cutting? Is there anything I can do to encourage it?

It's in a nice bright location, gets heavily misted twice a day and fertilized once a week! Maybe it's figuring out what to do since this its first time?

thanks!

You just have to be patient. You have the right environment for Mokara. You have bright sun and humidity in your atmosphere. Mokara drinks a lot and feeds a lot that is why I put mine in S/H (but then again I am in Manhattan and we have frost)
You can even gradually introduce it to direct sunlight.
It took me a month and a half starting from spike to buds to full blooms.
Just continue what you are doing...but when the blooms open stop fertilizer...resume again if you see new roots or if it gives you a basal keiki

ok great, thank you!
I think i just needed a little re-assurance that this was ok! lol

Anyway, you raised a question I have always had re:fertilization during bloom. Do you stop fertilization when in actual bloom or or do you stop when the buds are forming???

I have read to stop fert when buds are forming, but it still remains mysterious to me...

The plant has given the full energy to spiking, budding and blooming...the plant itself needs rest in that period it is in bloom(only water is needed for hydration of the flowers and leaves...when the blooms are done, the new roots emerge or a keiki(new baby forms)...then that is the time to resume full water and fertilizer...to gain energy to give to a spike once again
