Love the little guy!

Fireflies are going on endangered species list in many states left and right because of habitat destruction. It's very sad.

I have an Ascofinetia 'Twinkle' and it is in S/H . It's lovin' life.
Gotta get one like yours though--yeah, the name is a real hook...;)

 We certainly are. I think I read somewhere that certain firefly species stay in a somewhat larval form as adults, like Camille said, and these are the ones that are called glow-worms. I believe it's only the females, while the males develop wings to fly to the females. But maybe some species glow even as immature larvae, not sure.

Found a picture of the fireflies I see in Washington. There seems to be some debate about the particular species, but it's definitely a firefly, just without the "fire". Pacific Northwest Firefly (Ellychnia hatchi) - Ellychnia - BugGuide.Net

Thanks bballr! Yes, it is sad about fireflies dwindling. From what I've read, all our light pollution is interfering with their ability to find mates.

Thanks for the cultural tip, mspatt. I have one Phal in SH and I might try this one in SH, too.

Evan,
Hope your plant is doing well. I just saw your post (a little late) and wanted to show you a couple of photos. I grow my plants as you would Vandas; in a basket without media, bright light, full sun to part shade, misting every day or two and weekly fertilizer. Both are frequent bloomers however, the white has been in bloom for about three years, is about two inches and sweetly scented. Neither seems to be affected by inscets or disease with good air movement.

Beautiful! And good bloomers besides! Is the second one also fragrant? I would love some of these.

Leisurely 12-23-2012 09:39 PM

Vanda Lover, the second one is also scented and if I remember correctly it smells like honey.

Wonderful! It looks a lot like my rhyncocentrum Thailand gold. It's a very similar colour too, but mine has no scent. It also is a very good bloomer. I would love a blue darwinara.

Evan, I clicked on this hoping to see pictures of flowers and I am seriously disappointed. You'll hve to make sure you post pictures when it does bloom As to fireflies, they were always a part of growing up but we miss them here in Washington.
