Vanda Tri-Color ID
I am a bit confused about this Vanda I bought at a Denver Orchid Club meeting this past year. Its labled like this "Vanda tricolor" then the next line says "Wwhite-lav, lip brown spots W-S", what does all that mean.......? Also should there be more to the name of this orchid besides just Vanda Tricolor? Confused here but I sure can grow those buggers!

Vanda tricolor is a species orchid (not the lower case t is the correct way to write this). I don't believe there is any more to the name, or needs to be any more.
The next line is first off a description which I would read as White, Lavender Lip , & has brown spots. Although I'm partly using what I know tricolor looks like to help interpret that.
I'm not sure what the W-S means, I first of all thought it was a temperature indication but that would be more like W-I for Warm to Intermediate, I'm not sure what the S might be.

Here is a pic of Vanda tricolor, note that tricolor is listed as a synonym of Vanda suavis which is what this pic is tagged as.

Wow, that was faaaaaaaaaaast! Thank you so much! It was tiny when I got it, only had two leaves, it now has 7 leaves total since June. It seems to get black spots on the leaves occasionally and I have to cut the leaf, any tips on that? It gets sun in an east window, I spray it daily, its in a bark mixture with charcoal and perlite, I water it and its little friends 2 X a week and feed 1 to 2 X a month. The roots are amzing.

Just to clarify, that should have read ' note the lower case t' rather than 'not the lower case t'. It should always be lower case for the name of a species orchid and upper case for the name of a hybrid.

Oh, ok, I had wondered about that. I live in Denver Colorado which is technically in the desert. We get sun every day here, more than southern california even! Its dry as can be here, our himidity is usually about 12-15%. This is why I mist but I think I will stop with the Vanda's unless someone comes up with something better. Thank you so much for your advice.
