Does anyone grow these ? I came across one on a vendor site but other than a picture of the flowers ( which are great ), there is no other info. Like how big do they get ? do you grow like a Phal ? etc
That's a good question. I don't have one but I sure would love to. Vandas and doritis [and phals] are all closely related. New hybrids are created all of the time and these crosses usually bloom more often and can sometimes be hardier. I would think that you would water it when it just becomes dry, but don't allow it to dry right out, judging by the cross.
This is what I found in asianorchids.com :
Vandoritis Hao Xiang (In picture)
this can grow from 14 inches leaf span
to 18 inches tall with spikes grow another 12 inches so this can be quite tall...a five year old adult will have a foot and a half root lenth and can grow thick and plenty
it likes to drink and eat a lot...bright shady light
this will bloom as much as it can all year and no rest period
it is also fragrant
OAF, I can't help you with info about Vandoritis, but I do have a Dorotis pulcherrima alba x Ascda Pralor 'Tuyen' which is the next best thing, maybe.
What do I know about them? Nothing, except that my little plant has grown one new leaf in the past 18 months so just maybe my grand kids will know something in about 10 years time.
be patient Baz...this is a hybrid and they will quickly grow as soon as it gets situated well in its new environemnt...4 years for species to grow into adulthood and bloom...but for hybrids(why get a seedling? go get yourself a near blooming size) they are made for cut flower florists and they will bloom in a couple of years and then if they start blooming...they will not stop...in fact they dont quit!
