Its all depends on the clone. Funny thing is all the wild clone of V. coerulea are a lot more compact than the selected breeded clone. Wild one, you can expect to flower as small as 6" with leaf span about 5-6".

Most of the line breeded clone from Thailand are alot bigger. Most will start to bloom around 8-10" tall and leaf span about 10". Note coerulea has a very short horizontal leaf and most blooming size plant are around one foot leaf span. Also all the line breeded clone, the blood is too diluted that they will bloom in wide temperature range so you might have to play with the temperature to see which range it prefer. I have one that bloom perfectly in 16'C range and have another one, that only bloom after I give it several cool months in summer time w night temp around 10-12'C.

I have a Vanda coerulea coming today or Monday of next week. I purchased it in spike, and the plant itself appeared rather small from the photos. Ill post up some pictures once it arrives for you all to compare!

This is my first real Vanda (despite the 100's of other 'chids I have), so I think I'm going to go for the vase culture on this one while growing indoors for the winter.

I actually bought a coerulea today from a local orchid show which is flowering size but not yet in spike, hopefully it will flower this summer. Apparently coeruleas are meant to flower at quite a small size

I saw a vanda coerulea in spike and it's about 7" across and only several inches tall. But then I've also seen large coeruleas (by large, I mean, HUGE) at Longwood and the National Botanical Gardens.

I've had two V. coeruleas in the past. They had leafspans of around 7" and when I bought them, the seller said they were "several years from blooming." Unfortunately they both died of crown rot .

Speaking of growing vandas in jars, I'm growing a hybrid Ascocenda x Vanda in a glass jar. I got it as a small bareroot seedling. It's been in there for two years, and I think it's nearing blooming size!

I think ascocenda is already a vanda crossed with a ascocentrum , which give is large flowers from the vanda side and compact cluster of flowers and the ability to flower more than once a year from the ascocentrum side

If your vandas dry out too quickly in a basket, just add some medium such as sphag and charcoal, etc.
It does look like it would likely be a year or so til bloom. It really can depend on the hybrid, though.

From what I've seen is vandas grow a spike after every 3 - 4 sets of leaves providing they get enough light. (This is just my own opinion and it probably varies a lot from different hybrids to different culture and light) just gave that as a rough guide.
