I also wanted to ask about vanda flower shapes. Here is the picture of matured bloom of my V. Robert's Delight 'Garnet Beauty'. I saw many pictures of this cross(I think Cathy posted one here too)and their blooms seem to be flatter and more open, without those ruffled edges. Why mine never flattened? It is her first flowering. Or maybe because my indoor conditions are too dry? Do you have any idea?
Thanks a lot

V. Robert's Delight is a very good orchid. It's well known for those huge flowers. I don't know the answer to your question on ruffled edges. My plants either have them or don't. I don't think it's a matter of blooming differently at different times or growing indoors. Good luck on your collection. I've only been interested in vandacous orchids for about a year now but I really like them.

Thank you Tucker85. I like vandaceous the most so far because they grow with bare roots and are hard to kill. They do demand a bit more care in the vases, but I noticed that since I got several of them my other chids get less fuss from me and are doing much better :)

Orchideya, have you read any books about Vandas ?
In "Vandas and Ascocendas and their combinations with other genera" by David L. Grove you will find a lot of info about the orchids and there is also a chapter about the standard for the flowers.
Martin R. Motes book "Vandas" is also a "must read" to learn everything about them.

Thank you Ingse, I will try to find the books you mention. So far my only source for orchid info was this forum.

Funny question really, colour if only really the way we perceive it.
Flowers in general have a huge spectrum of colours to attract different birds and insects.
In the blue and purple/violet vandas, there is a huge spectrum of colours ranging from the blues and violets that we can see all the way up to ultra violets that we can't see. Some cameras are designed to filter UV lights, some pick them up. Generally they do this to show us an image closest to the one that we perceived. If we took a photo a photo that showed the full spectrum of ultra violet and infra red, to us it would just look like a huge blur.
In some way, the camera.is.showing us a more true colour of the flower, but it throws us off because we perceived it differently in real life with our eyes.

It's like showing a.colourblind person a true green or colour, they would think it's wrong as they have perceived it differently
