Default Renanthera matutina

Renanthera are popular mainly in commercial farms in the south of the U.S.A .,Hawaii and the Malayan Peninsula. Ideally this plant should be grown under the open sky in order to produce attractive cut flowers for they can bloom as often as they can. Renanthera matutina has this yummy candy red petals covered with yellow tinged brick-red spots; originally found in Thailand, Malaysia, Java and Sumatra. It loves to drink and eat a lot…and warm bright light…I put it in coarse coco chips, lava rock, charcoal and hydroton; it loves to live in the glass vase I drilled several holes in…I accidentally dropped it in the sink and lost five flowers in the middle of its spike. But they still look beautiful.

Nice looking orchid. The patterning reminds me of the corpse flower family. How does it smell?

Thanks vraev. No fragrance at all. Its been more than a month and its still as fresh as it opened its blooms. The top newly opened buds have yellow background and brick red spots; as time passes the lower flowers turned candy red background with yellow/brick red spots.
