Nice one !!! My mentor had one in the corner of his greenhouse that stayed there because it was so big it was not moveable !!!! Needed a forklift and no room to get one in there !! Thought you'd like to know !!!

My story is much like yours... Same type of chid, same amount of time, but I'm in Florida and mine has never spiked. If you don't mind me asking, how large is your plant and what's the leaf count? I read recently that they bloom between fall and winter. Have you experienced recent temperature changes that could explain the spike? Thanks.

Hello Junebug,yes you are right for temperature changes,that is exactly what happened,my plant is 20 inches long and has a 6 pairs of leaves and the keiki is 10 inches long and has also 6 pairs of leaves.Second spike just started to open flowers.Those flowers are very long lasting.There is a picture of the whole plant.Sorry for a delay in answering but I was too busy.

After seeing your pictures, I am curious if you are growing via semi-hydro culture or if you are using LECA as a regular potting medium for it? How often do you water it like this?

Thank you. I really appreciate your response. My plant has 6 pair of leaves and it's about 5" shorter than yours. It has two keikis. One is small, about 3" and the other is very small. The stem is swollen where the base leaf connects and I hope that means a spike is developing. The temperatures here have dropped a few degrees but it's still necessary to run the AC. Maybe I'll see some action as the weather cools in the next month or so. Thanks again.

Hello Junebug and your welcome,I remember before it was starting to spike we had a pretty good drop in temperature,I would say probably 10 degrees during the night for sure and days were colder too.I kept it in my greenhouse during the winter and spring time and decided to put it on my patio during the summer time to give it more light and after three months started to spike.Good luck with yours it seems it should bloom for you too.Happy growing

Hi Becca,I am using Leca for a medium and ceramic pot to keep it in.Every three days I am watering until all the roots are green and water goes up to the rim of the pot and then it drains from the bottom and some water stays there in this little saucer attached to ceramic pot.
