I have had this one for 5 years and no blooms....could it be a spike?

It is way too soon to tell, it could be a spike but it could very well be a root, you've waited this long, sorry to say you are going to have to wait a bit longer to find out.

At this stage my guess would be a spike. Vanda roots are generally white with shiny green tips.
