Wow, I'm.loving this thread!

It is very interesting to read about the temps vs colour. I know that roses are lighter in warmer weather.

It's not really a reliable source to compare a photo online to a patchara delight in it's physical form. I used to do a fair amount of photography and know that colour can vary even from.different monitors (your own computer settings) and also the camera, lens, filter and white balance will all have a different effect on the colour. A lot of cameras actually have a "flower macro" mode specifically to try get the true colour. Another major factor is the white balance on the camera settings.

I actually currently have a small patchara delight in spike (it's first flowering) and I might experiment on my camera the best way to get a true colour.

Though not entirely related i would like to add the Rocky Mountain Blue Columbine (Aquilegia caerulea) gets darker blue the higher in elevation it grows. i find this interesting because as elevation increases so does sun exposure and average temperature decreases. Sadly i'm not sure which factor governs this difference in pigmentation.

I have both the pachara and the coerulea(pls look at my album) and a couple more of blue Vandas....they tolerated 55 degrees last fall, since the Hurricane in NYC have left us under water floods with no electric for two weeks(surprisingly after the hurricane the weather was springlike) and I had to put my blue Vandas outside the fire escape because the humidifier and the oscillating fans were not operational....my sanderiana and luzonica just had to be indoors because they are warm Vandas and will die under 80F; but thankfully we didnt have frost til first week of December....
* the coerulea under snow is normal in the Himalayas where the thermal functions of nature protects plants on trees and maybe the roots are warmed by the conserved heat....but in a city it is dangerous to expose it to snow it might not recover....
