Aeredovanda Kinnarree 'Redland Gold'
To me, this flower is not particularly attractive (though I like the color combination) - it looks like it's been pulled inside out. However, Dr. Motes received AOS award for it, so some judges must have found it worthy. It is a species cross, of Vanda denisoniana x Aerides lawrenciae. It has a strong sweet scent, very like [I]Cestrum nocturnum[I]
Regards - Nancy
p.s. why is my italics thingie not working?

Very cute, I like the delicate shades of butter yellow and light lavender in contrast.

Very nice, Nancy!
Your italics aren't working because you're missing the forward slash at the 2nd {I}. {/I}

I just presented a talk on Vanda denisoniana and its hybrids to the AOS Northeast Regional Judging Centers - Aeridovanda Kinnaree was featured in the talk.
There are actually nine AOS awards to Aeridovanda Kinnaree including two awards to the clone 'Redland Gold'. The first AM (83 points) was awarded to Martin Motes in 1997 - his plant had 10 flowers and 12 buds on one inflorescence.
Dr. Motes sold several 'Redland Gold' mericlones to growers in New England. A friend of mine has one of these mericlones. When Bob Richter brought his 'Redland Gold' to AOS judging last September (2006), the plant had 43 flowers and 5 buds on 2 inflorescences and it earned an AM of 85 points! A photo of Bob's plant is attached.
The other denisoniana hybrid is Ascda. Mary's Lemon Drop 'Joanna' HCC/AOS (awarded last month). Dr. Motes work with denisoniana is remarkable - you get beautiful yellow flowers that are fragrant to boot.

Oo! What a pretty buttery yellow! I do like the pairing of the colors. I would like to know where you found this!

Both Aeridovanda Kinnaree and Ascocenda Mary's Lemon Drop should be available from Martin Motes. Both are delightful yellow color flowers with subtle fragrances.

Looks pretty good to me! I think our Bot Garden got the same cross in our Thai donation of orchids...I know we did get one Aeridovanda and I saw A. lawrenciae on the tag..just not sure of the Vanda parent.
