V. denisoniana is a native of Thailand, hence you'll find a lot of denisoniana hybrids being made there. On the local front, Martin Motes has made quite a few denisoniana hybrids - Ascda, Mary's Lemon Drop, Ascda. Molly Fairweather, Ascda. Motes Arabesque, V. Motes Buttercup, to name a few. All are beautiful yellows although my Molly Fairweather is heavily overlaid with red.

My plant came from Dr. Motes, who was a speaker at our annual 'Short Course' I think in about 2002. I bought three mericlones: the above Aeredovanda, Ascda. Motes Burning Sands 'Mary Motes' (dazzling), and Rhynchostylis gigantea 'Mary Motes' (pure white).
Motes is returning to do our workshop again this December; I will probably have to try a few more - vandas do exceptionally well in our climate, and his plants are brawny and all-American.
Regards - Nancy

We grow mostly vandae; plants that we've gotten from Motes have been vigorous growers - even in New Hampshire. We have the species and hybrids you mention (from Motes' visit to the New Hampshire Orchid Society a while back); I'm waiting for his Ascda. Blue Tahourdin - it's a winner!

I guess he gave you his culture talk, then: "Water until the roots are uniform dark green." Since taking his cultural advice to heart, my vandaceous plants are really thriving. Of course, humidity (or rather, LACK of) is not a problem here, but keeping them in empty baskets (or on a string) and drenching daily has made a lot of difference.
If you don't receive it, he sends out a monthly newsletter, chiefly dealing with vandas in south FL, but really informative and well thought out - and of course, he includes some porn (photos!). vandas@mindspring.com

Thanks Nancy. We do subscribe to the monthly newsletter. Besides having Motes' advice, we're fortunate to have David Grove in our neck of the woods for 'go to' and his book is a wonderful addition to our orchid library.
The first vanda we got came from one of David' Thai friends who likened vandas to mermaids. That analogy has proven true time and again.
Hope you'll post more from your collection. It's always nice to see what others are doing.
