I just use a 4-way plant hanger (like the one your basket is hanging from), and bend the ends around 2 or 4 strategic points on the roots, whatever you have to do to balance it out. Apply a few ties, if necessary. Don't pinch the roots, just cradle them. Your plant is pretty big, so you might want to use 4 pick points. If that doesn't work, aluminum fence wire is pretty handy in mounting and hanging projects, and it is easy to bend. As far as your old basket, I would carefully cut it into peices and leave it. Eventually, the plant will shed it little by little. Trying to remove will damage roots for sure, because they don't always like to let go.
