The information I have is that they like yearly temp ranges to be between 45F up to 75F. Do they really need this huge of a temperature differential to grow well?
I was going to put it in my terrarium until I realized that this might be an issue. Also, I can't grow it outside all year long as the temperatures here tend to get upwards of 95F to above 100F in the summer.
Those are the average winter low temp and average summer high temp. It certainly gets both colder and warmer than that overall. If you can keep it mostly below 90F with at least 10 degree temperature drop at night in summer, and 75F or cooler in the winter (and a little drier, but never dry for long) it should be fine.
I grow mine in my orchidarium....the temp never get's below 60 during the winter and the highs never get above 90 during the summer. Mine has done very well for me so far....it has two spikes growing right now, and that is nothing.....it can really put on a show!
WOW! Can you post pics of that Becca? How long do the flowers last and what do you mean by putting on a show? I take it that means there are lots of flowers?
Here is a current picture of mine now. It isn't in bloom...but last year it had like 10 spikes of flowers on it and sadly I don't think I took any pictures, probably because my camera doesn't do so well with macro shots. Also I can't remember how long the flowers last...it seemed that one spike opened after the other with several open at the same time so it seemed like it was in bloom for a while.
