Default Thrixspermum bromeliforme in bloom!!!

I am soo very excited to share with you guys this tiny bloom. To be honest with you when I got this plant at my last OS meeting I wasn't too sure about it. Knew nothing about it and still don't other than I have managed to keep it alive and growing and now blooming. This is a Phillipines endemic species. I got this plant from our last speaker. Anna Purificacion from Purificacion Orchids of the Phillipines. She was at Redlands and then our speaker at Coalition for Orchid Species. I must say that this morning I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the tiny bloom. I had seen the bud a couple of days ago but wasn't sure if it would bloom or die. Well enough talking. Here are some pics.

It is. The bloom reminds me of a Pleione and a Cymbidium.

This is a Vandaeceous plant (Vanda relative).

Very rare in cultivation. For some reason Thrixspermum spp. are not very popular.

Many of the smaller species are really not that hard to grow for an intermediate level hobbyist.

Let's see...

Gastrochilus spp. or Tuberolabium spp.

They like a bit more moisture though.

Should throw out lots of roots very quickly during growing season.

Nenella this is also a new genus for me. I had never heard of it until I got the plant at the raffle table. I like to try different species and our speaker told us that everything that was on the table was suited for our climate.

Wow, very interesting orchid! Moving this to the Vanda alliance.
