Default Trudelia (Vanda) pumila

Trudelia (Vanda) pumila, is a rarity here in the US.

This is its first blooming.

Nice, good sized 1 1/2" flowers.

Pleasantly fragrant - smells like perfume.

A Vanda of manageable size.

Awesome!

This plant was a lucky acquisition. I don't see this species for sale in the US very much at all. I happened to come across it when I had an opportunity to purchase it from someone in the US.

That's awesome!

How are you growing it? I saw that it comes from higher elevations... do you have to do anything unusual with it?

And one site says that it needs intermediate to cool temperatures and another says that it requires medium to hot temperatures....

It is a mid-elevation to high elevation plant.

I don't do anything special. I grow this one outdoors. It weathered the Southern California (Los Angeles County) winter just fine. It can get down to 36 F at night during the winters easily here.

Sometimes people assume too much about a group of plants, that's probably why there are differing information about temperature tolerances for this species.

Note: I don't grow these bareroot. They're in clear plastic pots.
