Since there are many growers here who are successful with the Vanda alliance I hope I can get some advice. There isn't many horticultural websites for paraphalaenopsis either. How do paraphalaenopsis grow?
I just bought a (Paraphalaenopsis serpentilingua x Vascostylis Tham Yuen Hae) from my last orchid society meeting. It was imported from Flordia from our guest speaker, who spoke about Paraphalaenopsis breeding. I don't remember all off his lecture but the pictures were beautiful and I ended up buying the last blue cross left after the meeting ended, for some reason, even though I am not a Vanda person. I think he mentioned paraphalaenopsis breeding into Vandas make them more compact.
It should be getting stong light since even hybrid catt leaves are slightly red when they are this close to the tubes. One tube is purple, so mostly red and blue light is emitted, and the other tube is a cool white.
I decided to mount the plant on cork and sphag and it grows underlights. I didn't have a larger piece of cork unfortunately. I also soaked it in some K-L-N, I think the plant could be stressed from its long journey to Canada, but they look like very tolerant to drought. Here it is:
I still haven't bloomed my Neostylis Lou Sneary and
Neofinetia falcata either, so maybe the Vanda alliance is difficult for me.
