Falcata is one of the larger growing species. It will require the plant reach at least 1 feet or more with leaf span about 8-10" before they will flower. It require intermediate to warm condition.
Since it looks a kiki, i would grow it warm and humid, until it establish, grow more roots and leaf. Its too small to be transfer into a basket or slab. Or you can water it and put it in a clear plastic bag, with a little hole on a side. |
im confused.

I wouldn't put it in a baggy... it just screams mold.

I am not sure exactly how the bag culture would work so I would say stick to something you are comfortable with. If you mount it with spaghnum moss it might work. You will know if it is not. Watch for any shriveling roots or leaves. That means dehydration.
FYI I checked and mine is an Aerides flabellata not falcata. Of my two Aerides though they are both somewhat bare root. I am certainly no expert. If it is a keiki I think it would do well with similar culture to the mother plant. |
the problem is, i dont know how he treated the mother plant.
i mounted it. it hasnt done anything. but its not dead |
I Am not sure about the humidity where you are, but I suggest putting it outside until it gets a little chillier. If you are getting below 60 at night you should bring it in at night. Watering early in the day is best so the roots dry quickly but that is not essential. I would add some spag to the mount if you don't have anything there yet. I am guessin that When it gets cold you will have it in a much drier environment with heaters running. The spag will help compensate somewhat.

I think the 'best' you can do is watch the roots .. if you see they are growing a 'grey/silvery ' colour wet them without necessarily soaking or wetting the ' whole' pot.. (the center of the pot always remains moister) I also tend to go with the idea that it It's better to leave them one day more in drier medium than overwater...... It depends a lot on your growing conditions... I change places/regions where I live quite often & have learnt through experience that the key is : beautiful roots produce beautiful leaves = flowers......... ! I have used the bag method, which is fine and works as long as you watch the roots & leaves so they get air & dry out & not become soggy, get mould etc. I hope this helps. |
