Update...What I thought was a developing keiki turned out to be another bud. I've never seen a bud pop out on the stem below the leaves. Kinda strange. I gave my plants a little bone meal for the first time about 2 weeks ago. Do you think there's a connection?
The first photo shows the new bud growing below the leaves on the stem of the mature plant.
Second photo shows developed keiki in bloom with new bud behind it.
Third photo is mature plant in bloom and bud.
This is a very busy plant.

LOL it is a bloomimg fool. I love that. PS Not that you would, and I hope you don't, but if you cut that keiki off and gave it aways or something, it would be always blooming too, it's ready. Sometimes you get a keiki from someone and wonder why it never blooms.

Thanks Swamper.
I've decided not to tamper with the blooming keiki. Momma and baby appear happy and the fullness of conjoined plants appeals to me. Also, the keiki is seated far too low and has too many roots entangled with the mother plant. A large portion of mother's roots are actually imbedded in the decaying slat basket. Keiki removal in this situation might cause more harm than good.

I agree. They look awesome like that anyway. Let the family stay together.

I just went out and measured momma plant. It's 18" from the top of the basket to the top of the plant. Leaf span is about 18" and the blooms are 1 3/4" wide. Her keiki is 6" tall and first appeared 22 months ago. This is keiki's second spike. She was just an 8 month old baby when her first one popped up.

It may not be then the variety 'Robert' it could be any of the mericloned varieties from Thailand like #2 or Ruby. Ascda. Dong Tarn is ( Meda Arnold x Eileen Beauty) hope this helps. They do get large if they got the traits from V. coerulea or E. sanderiana. Compact if it got the traits from A. curvifoilium.
