Hi Steve, I grow this too; mine is blooming as well, but I'm pretty sure that yours could kick mine's ass! The scent is really potent and sweet, you're right about that.
I thought that this was formerly an Epidendrum? If I'd known it was an Angrecoid, it would have 'lost its will to live' by now. Whew!
I hate not living in Hawaii, too!
Cheers - Nancy

Steve, Oeneniella polystachys is a great species. And yes, the is fantastic, especially when you consider what small flowers emit such a strong fragrance. Congratulations.

On another matter, you say that you have a hard time growing C. walkeriana where you live? That was unexpected. Now I'm wondering how are all the Hawaiian growers getting such nice walkerianas that I keep seeing in various postings on the Internet.

Steve
Uhhh, its not so much that walkeriana is hard to grow in Hawaii (just ask catwalker!!), but rather my location is very windy. The wind dries things out very quickly, so even plants that require quick drying media (like walkeriana, for example) need spag or other moisture retentive material. So when I found a species that grows well in very bright light, in a tree about 5 ft off the ground, fully exposed to the wind and attached to PVC, I was a bit surprised with success! I probably should have made that a bit more clear in my first post. My bad! As you can tell, I also don't mind torturing my plants a little bit to find out what their tolerances are!! I think it actually helps me to be a better grower by finding out what conditions my plants can take at certain boundaries, though it can often have negative effects on short term blooming success! lol

Very nice indeed. Looks like it's growing in a jungle. I'm partial to the whites and fragrance is a big bonus.
