Naoki, it's a beauty. Do you move your vandas outdoors at any time during the year, or do you grow them exclusively indoors? I know that you grow them under lights, but is that their only source of light, or do they ever experience light coming in from a window. I have a V. luzonica, but it's only about half the size of yours, and I'm always interested in learning how others grow their vandas in what is probably a less-than-ideal environment (by that, I only mean that, like me, you're not growing your plants in a continuously hot and humid environment like South Florida). Thanks for sharing the pics. It really is a fabulous looking vanda.

Steve, I wish I had a way to hang my Vandas outside during the warmer weather. I tried it for two months last year. Since we experience relatively low humidity duirng the summer, my plants did not do well. This monster plant, however, might go outside this year.
It was a sponteneous purchase. I did not realize that the plant was REALLY big and that I have a limited growing space.

Spontaneous purchases are, I think, one of the hazards of growing orchids. My ambition usually gets the better of me during the summer, when everything goes outside. Then I regret those impulse purchases in the fall, when it's time to move everything back indoors. Good luck with the V. luzonica. It's a fantastic plant. Oh, one more thing... I know there's some controversy (depending on which authorities you choose to listen to) as to whether or not luzonica's blooms have any fragrance. Can you let us know whether or not the flowers on your plant are scented, please? Thanks again for the feedback!

You are welcome, Steve. You got the point. Taking the plants ouside during the summer leaves me a big 'empty' spot inside as if I had to fill in.
This one is fragrant in the morning. BTW, there was a 'terete' Vanda hybrid with dark (really dark one) purple flowers. I almost got one instead. It was much skinnier, which did not seem to take too much of space.

I gave in to a terete vanda craving also, Naoki, when I purchased a V. Poepoe 'Diana' late last fall. I convinced myself that, since it could handle the same light as my cacti, I wasn't really purchasing yet another orchid. :-)

Make sure you don't lose any of the roots. It's very notorious for not sending out new roots. I have top cutting with only one root and its hasn't send out any single new one for over 6 months. The plant is growing slowy thou.

Good to know. Thank you. I am kinda glad it is a slow grower since it is taking much space of the limited growing area.

Yeah it's a slow grower that tend to get large. But it does throw out multiple spike per season. lol Generally I prefer my vanda to be on V.coerulea size, in term of leaf length and high. My luzonica leaf are about 12-14" long.
It's a very warm grower so if you keep ur growing area above 18-20'C all the time, it will definitely grow a lot quicker. Also luzonica hate repotting and top cutting, so NEVER do that regardless of if it get 5 or 6 feet tall. lol
