The Lone Coerulea
I bought this sweet, sweet orchid last year. I love this shade of blue! I waited all year, hearing a lot of stories about central Florida possibly being too hot to bloom a V. coerulea. Then, after all the hoping for it to be cold enough....I finally saw a spike filling up with buds! Just as they started to open, a cold front blasted all but one bud! GO FIGURE!!!

Hi Jasen,
I'm very happy to read about that. because I do have many V.coerulea and I have read also so many times that it is impossible to make bloom this specie in hot environement (Bangkok, where I live is very hot nearly all year round). And.... they are blooming well in fact. Some of them few times a year. I have also other Vanda species who are told to need cold to bloom (V.lamellata etc..) and they are blooming well too....
Anyway, you Vanda coerulea is very beautiful.
Congrats

I personally believe that once these plants have been kept in captivity for a few generations, it doesn't really matter what their ancestors in the wild liked and disliked.....these plants evolve! I think sometimes people put a little too much stock in these myths, and don't realize these plants are extremely smart. Thanks for the comnments, this is one of my favorite orchids.

V.coerulea had been line breeded some many times to the point that it become the easiest species to grow and bloom. The can grow the same plant in either cold greenhouse, intermediate or even warm and it will bloom no problem. The only thing i notice is the color tend to be darker when my coerulea blooms during winter compare to the blooms from summer.
