Unhappy Ascocendra Su-Fun Beauty needs help

Hi, I got this beautiful orchid two weeks ago and there were about 7 fab blooms on it. By the time I got home it was already wilting and within a week all the blooms had dried up and the stalk had gone brown. What can I do for it before it goes to Orchid heaven.

It is in about 50% humidity and temps of 65-70. I mist every day and have dunked it for 10 min for the last two days...but it has not seemed to help.

It is Asco. Su-Fun Beauty.

Thanks everyone, Karen

I am thinking it may need daily watering. Let's see what others have to say.

I'm not an expert in these but I would guess that watering (more than just misting) every day or even twice a day is needed for any bare root Vanda Alliance in that sort of humidity.

Thumbs up

OK, Well I dunked it again this morning and added some Superthrive 'cuz thats what I had.

I hope that's OK. Then, I'm drying the roots with a CFL that's equal to a 75 w. Didn't want to burn it !!! This also raises the humidity.

I do this again early this afternoon to allow the roots to dry again.

Thanks for the input, Karen

Hi Karen,

I have one of these, got it a few months ago. I potted mine in a clay pot and a mix of predominantly tree fern fiber, with pumice and a couple of styro pnuts. The climate where I live can be quite dry, especially in summer. I watered it pretty well daily during the summer, and now I spray with a bit of water daily and water well maybe 3 times a week. I do not let it dry completely. This is my first orchid of this type and haven't been sure if I had been taking care of it properly, but was growing well all summer - lots of folliage and root growth. A couple weeks ago I noticed a spike, so I guess its happy.

Just wanted to let you know how I have been growing mine - gives you another option if the increased watering doesn't help or you don't want to have to water multiple times a day.

good luck, and let us know how things go

Thanks Gin, I was wondering about that. I'll give it more time to absorb the water befor I start drying. The roots are starting to look a little greener. Do you or anyone know if it's OK to dunk it in the water with Superthrive in it everytime or should how often I should add it???
Thanks, Karen

Superthrive is a root stimulator. It is not necessary for it to be in every watering. But it will not hurt it either.

Thanks Ted, My husband especially loved the flowers so I really don't want to kill it. I think I will give it a while to see what happens.

Then (if it's still doing OK) I might try what WhiteRabbit said. Sounds like a good alternative.

Karen
