Default Renanthera coccinea on a tree

Renanthera is a well-known vine-like orchid that loves the sun. This is flowering on a cinnamon tree in the backyard. The larger tree that appears in the background is a Lychee tree (Litchi chinensis) which is now full of maturing fruits!!

Beautiful renanthera, Mauro. And I love lychee fruit! They're only found at a few of the specialty Asian food markets around here (and consequently rather expensive). Now you just need to plant a durian tree somewhere in your vicinity to enjoy the fantastic tasting fruit (but perhaps not the notorious smell).

Yes, Isdaojon, this Renanthera is on a tree in São Paulo, in my backyard... it is not actually wild, I mean, it is my garden. Growing on trees is a nice natural way of having orchids if one has the right condition and I have many on trees!

Lychee was rather rare to find here some 10 or 15 years ago, Steve, but now it became common and less expensive. My tree has been producing mature fruits exactly in the Christmas week, so it's an additional joy!
The durian... could be... but that offfensive smell!!!

Lovely Renanthera, Mauro. I too wish I could have a lychee in the backyard.

Oooh, the talk of Lychee made me go and find a tin of them in the kitchen so I could eat them.

The Renanthera is gorgeous. Great colour up in the trees.
