Two new Vanda species heading my way this week. The brown with three spikes is V. bensoni and the other will be my second plant of V. tricolor.

Thanks Naoki, there isn't much of a root system but where they are coming from its normal, thats how they grow them. Now that summer is nearly here where I am they'll kick on well.

Really? Interesting. I bet they are really fragrant. The Vanda species I have so far are v. tessellata ( division ) and v. hindsii ( baby ). I just noticed that tessellata is spiking. V. tricolor has been on my wish list for a while.

Naoki, the V.hindsii requires a lot of heat, hope you have it. Its also an Australian Native, it comes from the very north of Australia and its rarely cool up there. V.tessellata is on my want list also and could be with me in the next month or so, flowering size too.

Thank you for the tip, Roy. It is still a small seedling. Does it need HEAT, too?

Being small it could settle in to your conditions but it is a HOT grower it "may" be much slower to grow and mature than your other plants. Likes lots of light also but moreso when mature, not too shady when small either.

I just moved it to right under the HID light. I think that the blooming size V. tricolor in US is hard to come by.

Beautiful plants you're getting there, Roy. Very strange, however, that their root systems look rather meager. Are you going to try and pot them, or just continue growing them bareroot?

Molly, you can get flowering size plants of V. tricolor (standard type) at Santa Barbara Orchid Estate. V. tricolor variety suavis is currently on Orchids Limited's website (and it's also a blooming-size plant, although a bit pricey). A friend of mine just got one from SBOE, and it's about two feet tall and has a small spike developing (just in case you wanted to call them tomorrow and perhaps enjoy some flowers this fall :-).
