Default Possible Vanda Problem

Hello All, I am new to this discussion board and new to orchid care so pardon my ignorance.

I recently (roughly a month or two ago) bought a Vanda Orchid from LOWES (one of those orchids in the bag that arent blooming) and planted it in a small glazed ceramic pot using firbark Course Potting Mix (orchid mix)

I water it when it seems dry (normally every other day or so ) and It is outside and receives Morning sun from around Id say 7 untill 11:00am... the rest of the day it is shaded and then in the evening gets filtered light. So far so good.
Though I havent noticed an abundance of growth , i can tell it is growing.

Recently (past 3 days) I noticed that on one of the leaves its developing a strange discoloration.
No, it is not raised, nor is it rough/bumpy... its just discolored. more toward where the leaf attaches to the "stem"... Instead of being a nice green color its very dark green and blotchy...

Im concerned about what it might be and dont know what I should do, or if its just natural discoloration for whatever reason...

Any ideas as to what it is?
I will try to get a picture asap.

thanks

On my screen the area looks reddish if that is right it is from to much direct sun . the plant is not used to a lot . They sit in Lowes with more or less none also grown as a seedling before Lowes got it they get less . Gin

If I were you I'd get it out of that pot like yesterday. Maybe some people grow them in pot here and there, I'm not sure, but that's the way they are grown in my area, bare root.
The next thing I would do is look at gallery pics here of vandas to see how most are grown, you'll see diff styles but almost always bare root.
In AL. you get much colder winters then we do in Mia,FL. so you will have to bring them in. This is not a big deal either, you will find people growing amazing vandas and they live in freakin Canada and maybe Alaska LOL.
The color change on your leaf, Gin could be right. That's a major change in temps and light so it could be reacting now, even if it is 2 months. Orchids react slowly to changes not overnight, unless we're talking about blooms which react immediately to changes.
Hang in there, you're in for a lot of fun.

Well, today I hope I didnt do something stupid...

I realized and read that I needed to have the Vanda in a hanging basket so, I went out looking for a hanging basket for it today and looked everywhere.... I couldnt find one anywhere, so I was at LOWES (last place) and say they had 2 other Vanda's there in the "Bin-O-Orchids" by Better~Gro Orchids (you know the ones all put in a bag).. they had a yellow one called "ASCDA SUNSAMRAN SUNLIGHT JAN" and a Pink one called "V. MOTES IMPERIAL X V KATMEA PINK"...

the Pink one was already in a small hanging basket and I thought to myself, YES! I WILL GET THAT ONE and the YELLOW ONE and I already have my Red Vanda and put them together to make a Multi Vanda Hanging basket..
EHHH, I hope this was not a bad Idea, so I got the two, and took mine out of its pot and freed its roots LOL, and Carefully started placeing all the Vandas together in the hanging basket.

I took the Pink one already in the basket and carefully unknotted it and took it out to cut off all the dead dried up brown leafs and roots off of it, and then placed it back and was careful to weave the roots through the bottom of the basket, then secure it, then I took the Yellow one, out of the bag, carefully cut away its dead roots and then attached it to the outside of the basket, while weaving its roots through the side and bottom, the secured it with a Twisty tie, then I took my orginal RED VANDA and gently secured it to the other side of the basket and tada, a multi colored Vanda Hanging basket.

It will have Yellow, pink and Red in it when they bloom, whenever they bloom, I enjoy the structure of the Vanda Orchid just as much as the bloom clusters

I thought then about, "what if these Vandas are different species" and because I am such a crazy Reef Aquarium Hobbiest, knowing that Corals of different species of the same genus will produce chemicals in the water which will kill of the percieved "intruder"... I started worrying that perhaps these orchids who might be of different species of the same genus might do something simular... but I duno if they do this or not...
so , hence this post... do they? haha

help me out you guys!

thanks

I don't believe they will kill each other
just be careful if you cause a problem in one it will quickly spread to the others but I don't see any problems
post some I would love to see them

I don't foresee any serious consequence to combining your three Vandas into one basket.

Just know, they will be more complicated, (not necessarily more difficult though), to maintain.

They could also be more difficult to separate later on when the roots grow all over each other.

I weighed that possibility about them becoming very intertwinned with one another when I placed them together, but as far as I am concerned, this doesnt bother me at all. As they grow I will simply put the current basket they are in, into another basket thats larger and so on and so forth... I see no harm in it. And I think the arrangement of a Red, Yellow and Pink Vanda will look very nicely if I can get them to bloom at the same time!

haha

I will take some pictures tomorrow, but remember they are new and still acclimating and growing. Just got um'

Well I took some pictures today of the small basket with the newbie's in it... And had to alter the color of the photos so that it looks more natural, I use my Voyager Phone to take pictures (2.0 megapixel) and sometimes, the colors a bit off...

so here they are:
