Help Me find a Great Ascocenda! Please Help

Hello everyone my name is sam! i posted earlier about my ascocentrum Ampullaceum that is sending up multiple bloom spikes!! Which makes me very happy! this also tells me that i can grow these types of orchids! Light and temp are not an issue, but size is! ive read in my orchid books i've purchased and they all say that most of the hybrids nowadays dont get taller that 2 feet tall and that hey are slow growers(thats what the greenhouse manager at parkside orchids told me) so even if the plant decided to get taller than 2feet it would take it a while to do so. I am asking for your advice as to which Ascocendas you know about that fit my description or come close! also please tell me where i can get them! please help me out!!!!
There is one i found at Parkside named:
Ascocenda Su-Fun Beauty 'Orange Belle' AM/AOS
but i would like a small pool of plants to choose from before i settle! i just wanna know whats out there you know??
Also potted is the way i have to go for my conditions, moist, but still to dry to have them hanging Footloose and fancy free my ascocentrum ampullaceum is happy in coarse bark so. i hope that you guys will be able to help me out in my endeavor! Later guys

R F Orchids, Goodwin Orchids, Natts Orchids are 3 that seem to have excellent plants and I think Soroa Orchids could be good options for you to try. All are on the net. Three are in Florida and Natts in Illinois.

Wow i didn't know they could be sooo expensive?? why is that? rf was really the most expensive! by the time shipping was done it would be 60 to 83 dollars! well i liked goodwin not a very wide selection only one asco. alot of places grow them hanging in baskets. what can i do about that?? i need to grow potted. its what has worked so far. it makes placing them for winter much easier is there any place else you can think of??? Are denisoniana hybrids good? easy to bloom? i like yellow, i found i few at Soroa and some at rf that were really nice! and they seem to be short plants. but Rf is too expensive soroa only has one.

Okay now three questions:
1. I found lots of awsome plants at Alohaorchid.com should i beware of buying from them???

2: What about Princess Mikasa Hybrids?? all the sites you listed highly recommend them! how big does it get???

3:Are Denisoniana hybrids good? easy to bloom? i like yellow Big fan!!!!

You might try to find bare root vandas so that you can pot it the way you want. I have had good luck with them., it just takes patience for them to get to blooming size.

The prices over there are no different here, it depends on what you want and who is selling it. Most Vandas & Ascocendas are produced and grown on in Thailand and imported to the US (& Australia.)The cost very little over there. If you look at the prices some cost as little as US$5.00 to $7.00 for flowering size plants. (min 25 plant purchase of the same plant ) Import & quarantine costs etc will build the price up quickly but to what extent// your guess is as good as mine.
V.denisoniana crosses for yellow are good but not big flowers 2 inch approx'. Very few Princess Mikasa hybrids about but Ascda Princess Mikasa 'Blue' & 'Pink' are great growers and flowerers. They are Ascdas and take a long time to become too big. Even true Vandas will flower and remain small enough to handle for a long time. I think if your looking for small plants, rule of thumb Ascdas & Rhynchostylis coelestis hybrids are the ones to look for. I have Vandachostylis Thailand 'Somsri' in spike now, its flowered before and its only tiny. I'll post a pic when its open.

I second with Roy on Ascda. Pricess Mikasa. As a new Vanda grower, this is the first one I got from a local society last June and started collecting more. Since then, it bloomed 3 times and I just noticed that another one is coming up.

Okay cool! your answers are very calming!!! i wont have to worry about size really for a while! flower size isnt really a problem for me but i do like big flowers! sooo it seems that the Princess mikasa is a really nice plant! im seriously considering it to be my first Ascda. my little Ampullaceum is sending up three bloom spikes so im really excited and have been inspired. LoL. so um one more question.... Sry i know im asking a lot of questions! but ive heard a couple of bad reports from people who have ordered from Alohaorchid.com. so i looked there and they have a bunch of Ascdas that i like alot!!!! so do you know think i should beware of ordering from them???

i have had very good results from aloha orchids, no problems at all, and thier vanda/asco selection is very good too....i love my little asco. bi centennial i got from aloha....

Hey guys all of your help really Helped hahaha that was funny. I found the perfect Ascda at AlohaOrchid.com it is named Waianae Lemons! its yellow short and has a leaf span of about 12inches! its the perfect size!!!!!! and it is Fragrant! small flowers but that will just make it even more cute! on a small plant the flowers will probably look big anyways compared to the plant!

One last Question to ask you! Its offered in bloom should i get it in bloom? sometimes you get plants in bloom and they dont do well. or should i get just a mature sized plant so it can acclimatize to my conditions??? let me know what you think, weather it makes a difference or not!

i always like a blooming plant when i buy....instant gratification is always best! gl with the lemons!
