I have posted this before but I have added 2 more pipes to it in order to find room for all my vandas. This is it...no more room for more pipes.

Please don't laugh at my hodge podge home made system, which I made myself. My kids really get a good laugh out of it but hey, it works for me.

You can see my green rain barrel which sits on the floor in front of the trays. I have 5 trays, with a 1" drain hose in each tray, which drain into the rain barrel. The rain barrel has a hose which runs into my shower stall.

On the far end I hung a 4 bulb 48" T5 unit so the terete vandas get a bit extra light. I understand they need more light than regular vandas. The light mover covers the remaining plants.

The grey plastic matts lying on the bottom of the trays are there so when I water, I can pull them up so I don't water everything in the room. I use a hose with a spray unit on the end.

My son calls me "the duck tape Grandma" because I have wide duck covering the space between the trays so it does not leak onto the floor. Isn't duck tape wonderful?

One of these days I will take a pic of the other side of the room where I grow my phrags.

Marilyn

Marilyn, I don't know who would laugh at such an awesome set up you have built?! It looks great and doesn't sound like it is much work to water! Great job!

I love to see and read about this *very* creative setup! It doesn't look bad at all! In fact I wished I had the guts to make something like this myself.
Your setup is awesome!

Thanks for sharing this with us. It's very inspirational!

Marilyn, your "Vanda house" is growing. Very very impressive and awesome. You inspired me to create my own Vanda house. I keep adding new plants...... I need to make mine bigger.

Your Vanda pictures are GREAT, too. Thank you for sharing.

Just outta curiosity, how high is your power bill each month? Those light fixtures look like they use quite a bit of electricity.

Those are some great-looking plants, though.
