You are clearly a very serious vanda grower. I'm exhausted just looking at that wonderful picture of your great set-up and trying to imagine how much work must be involved in keeping the plants happy. And, like Carl, I'm curious to find out if a major part of your income goes towards your monthly electricity bill. :-)

Smweaver, Carl, my electric bills run about $150. but I have lots of T5's also running 12 hours a day.
It is not that much work taking care of these vandas. I'm not the youngest chicken in the hen house, and I walk with a cane, so I assembled this setup with the least amount of work needed. I have a small Dostron fert injector in my bathroom. I took off the shower head, and use my water from there. I use a coiled hose with a wand on the end. Every thing drains into the rain barrel and then into the shower stall drain. I just spray the roots once a day, that's it for the work involved. This is the lazy womans way of growing about 40 vandas. My biggest problem is walking the steps, I'm slow, but I get there. I guess that is why my boys make fun of my hodge podge arrangement. They make fun of it, but bragg to their friends about the orchid their mom grows Marilyn |
Your growing area looks great Marilyn! You've really managed to optimize the system and the space you have. Too bad you've run out of room for more racks. What are you going to do if/when you get more Vandas?

really Amazing ! I think I can be called a serious Vanda grower too. But all my plants grow outdoor in my garden. This room is amazing ! Is that hybrids or species ? I suppose both.
