Default Sedirea Japonica in Hawai'i?

I really enjoy my Neo. Falcata and it has sparked an interest in other Japanese orchids. Just wondering if Sedirea Japonica would be o.k. in Hawai'i? Any Hawai'i people here with experience?

I live (according to Google Earth) at 1300 ft level. Day temps don't usually go above 85 and night temps are in the low 70's. It will drop off a little bit in the winter. I'm worried that it is too warm. Any input would be appreciated.

I have read the NWO website and I also did some searches on this and another board.

My temps will definitely get over 75f and will not get down to 50f maybe they will drop to high 60s. I was wondering how adaptable Sedirea Japonica might be and if anyone has got it to bloom in Hawai'i? Any more info will be appreciated.

Hi,

I have some plants growing in Manoa and they seem to be fine...they've even bloomed recently. The conditions you described are about where they should be and in fact, my daytime temps probably get higher than that will no ill effects. Good luck!

Default Thanks! Stoked!

I was hoping someone would say that. Mahalo 2ljd! I was happy getting the plant now I am even more stoked about it. How are you growing yours? Potting, medium and stuff?

I miss Manoa! I used to go up a lot, behind Paradise Park, the main falls, and other trails. I know I have cooler weather than Manoa, so I hope she blooms...

The plants came in sphagnum moss in a small slotted plastic pot. I've kept them that way and they seem to be doing fine. I water about 1-2 times a week, fertilizing once a week. Light levels are about where a phal or paph would prefer. They're putting out new leaves and roots, so they must be happy. The only thing is I discovered they have mealy bugs in the flowers! I've treated and quarantined them...hope they didn't contaminate my other orchids!
