Inducing aerial roots
Wondering if anyone has any ideas on getting ascocenda etc to put out more roots along the stem. Anybody try keiki paste or something similar or do you have another method? Thanks in advance for your help

My only guess would be to increase ambient humidity so the roots can survive.
I've heard of people wrapping sphagnum moss around the stems to get roots at those points as well.

I have heard of Keiki paste doing the job, although have no experience doing so. Higher humdity makes sense.

Agree with above... higher humidity. And achieving it through sphagnum moss is a great idea, Tin!

How about just adding a bit of rooting hormone in with your regular watering/fertilizing regimen?

Great idea, Tindo. I have had 1-2 vandas that just wouldn't grow more roots. One started growing a large new root almost 2 feet from the last one! It is now about 4 ins long. I had thought it was dying. Surprisingly, It has a small new sprout growing at the side now and I still do not know how that happens. I was sure it was dying.....

I don't know about ascocenda, but I have had tremendous success with K-L-N that I purchased from Ray's. I periodically run a full strength (ie, the one for transplanting) through the pots I want to induce rooting. There are a few that refuse to respond, but not many. I have new roots on lots of plants. Just a thought.

Oh!! K-L-N is a miracle liquid! Nothing doesn't respond to K-L-N. I sprayed a very diluted form of it on my orchidarium before introducing animals. Back then all the orchids were brand new, out of the shipping box. Within a week they started growing new roots. High humidity helps too.
