Question Fertilizing Vandas

Hello all.

I just posted this very same question in the Catt thread. I think at this point in the hobby, I need to start tailoring and refining my culture conditions for each type of orchid that I have so that I can hopefully achieve better results (I've gotten over the "I can't believe it's still alive stage, I think, and I'm ready to step it up, so to speak. LOL)

Anyway, I wanted to know what ratio of fertilizer you use and what your growing conditions are? I've read online and on the OB that vandas are heavy feeders, but what are the optimum fertilizer levels? I've read on First Rays that fertilizing may also depend on the growing conditions of the plants.....so......

I just purchased MSU 19-4-23 from First Rays and for 350ppm it would be 1.4 tsp. per gallon.

What fertilizer do you use and what is the ratio? What are your growing conditions?

My vandas are outside in hot and humid south florida.

Thanks for your input!

My vandas are fertilized at 125 ppm. I use it every day. I spray the roots, not foliage with it. I grow my vandas in my basement, under HID light and at the present time I have 3 in full bloom and 2 more in the bud stage. My vandas love this treatment.

I grow mine in wood baskets with lava rock or charcoal, but only enough to hold the plant in place. They are pretty much bare root in the baskets. If a plant arrives with lots of long roots, I remove a slat or two from the bottom of the basket so I can thread the roots through it.
