New baby
I am just really excited and wanted to share...I went to the Venice Orchid Show this weekend (in Venice, Fl, west coast, south of Sarasota) and it was pretty neat, expecially for such a little town. They had some great vendors there, and I had to get a new baby or two.
I got an Aerides lawrenceae for $25 with 2 spikes on it! I am so excited. (I also got a little seedling Onc. with an AM/AOS, for a couple bucks). I will definitely post pics when it blooms, hoping all goes well.
I will also post some pics of the show that I took in the orchids in bloom section, but probably won't get there till tomorrow.

Swamper, I just don't have my camera with me right now, but will get on it ASAP. Stupid school is keeping me way too busy! I have a friend in Venice who watches the house down there and he goes free diving/spear fishing. I am not sure what you actually call it, but he doesn't use any scuba equipment, just his spear gun. He was telling me on this trip that he caught a 40 lb. grouper not too long ago and lots of other big catches. I can't imagine being in the water with something that big, then actually fighting it while you are in the water too!
Jackie, what is that in your avatar? Is it the Rhyncostylis (sp?) gigantea 'speckle' or 'spot' from Smiley? I really love it. I looked up the Aerides pic and it is really awesome, similar colors, but your pic is really pretty!

You have to keep at least one camera on your belt at all times...you have to have a belt on you at all times

Jenn, she's SPOT. And my Speckle is in bloom right now, and lightly 'speckled', just like my Spot. I thought they'd be very different, Or I wouldn't have bought them. She also wrote me and called me that my 'Prai' is in now and ready! She want's me to come get it! I asked for a pic of it, and ironically, JUST like my SPOT!! I'll send you the two picks, her Prai, and my Spot. And my Speckle.

Ok guys, here are two pics of the Aerides lawrenceae that I picked up. Please look carefully at the second picture of the spike and tell me if you think it looks OK. It seems really shiny to me, almost like it is coated in sap or something. I hope it is ok!
Swamper, sorry about the eardrum, that sounds awful!
Jackie, sorry they are all so similar. I saw one of the same i have from Smiley at the show this weekend that looked so much darker and less tesselated. It was really interesting to see how much variation they can have!

The second pic...I don't notice anything wrong with it. In fact it looks really great on my PC. It looks like its about to go crazy blooming for you.
My hearing is ok so no harm done . Just can't dive as deep anymore without the help of tanks.

Whew, I was worried about those spikes. I am hopeful they will be fine. Everything else from that vendor was doing great. It was Plantio La Orquidea and the card says "warm growing species and unusual hybrids". They told me that if I like the unusual stuff to call and make and appointment. They are in Sarasota and some South AMerican country that is escaping me right now. Their number is 941-504-7737 for anyone interested.
Swamper, glad no harm was done!
