Bloom pattern - a mystery . . .
At least to me.
First picture is of Tuberolabium quisumbingii in bloom that I posted in mid-December. This was the “nicest” bloom I’d had from this plant, and it looked like the spikes had lot’s more space, so I assumed it would bloom sequentially, kind of like a Phal., but . . . those blooms died without any other “action” on the spike. Then I assumed the rest of the spike had blasted, and that was the end of it. A couple of weeks after the last bloom died, buds began to grow (pretty rapidly) on the rest of the spike (the spike did not grow any more, just the buds coming out), and then the second “batch” of blooms (second picture) opened a few days ago.
I have never seen this type of “bloom pattern” on any other orchids !?!
Obviously no big deal, since I did get all of my spike bloomed out, but it seemed strange to me. This one has bloomed before, but shorter spikes, and only one set of blooms. Is this the way they are supposed to bloom? Just curious.
