Swamper, thanks for the "show" now you need to "tell" the step by step process. I think it would make for a good program for our little beginners club. One member just bought a "flat" of orchids and I requested he do the same. Maybe you could e-mail the photos and follow-up with a little more explanation???????

Swamper, very interesting process. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Now I have to ask you. How long do you have to wait before you see the bloom?

Ok, here goes, I guess I cant get away with just posting pics. Hopefully I can answer all the questions.
The cross was made by Bob Hatos and he named it V.Sandra Gail Hatos after his beautfil wife. The flask credit goes to Ruben in Orchids as Royal noticed. The actual process was learned by Bob from Robert Fuchs of R.F.Orchids at a seminar many years prior so I was fortunate to be able to sit there Friday and listen intently as Mr. Hatos patiently led me through the steps right in his back yard.

Dounoharm, I can't tell you how much it hurt me to throw away those babies and God knows I resited, in fact I kept telling him if he wanted to kill them then he would have to do it. In the end he won and I had to throw them out. He made me feel better by assuring me that it would be easier to let them die now then to have them die later. It still hurt as I watched them sail into the grass and flowers and I secretly hoped they would somehow survive and miraculously grow there one day.

Peewee I gues I answered part of your question above and as to whether they stick to the pot? Good question and I dont know, but the reason behind it is too keep them close/tight. Apparantly their survival rate goes up dramatically when grown this way, sorta like little sibblings sticking together. ( I know what about those I killed right?)
Once potted they are then placed and grown like other vandas as far as watering frequency and fertilizing, of course not with the same intensity meaning you mist not hose it down. I know you knew that but I just had to say it It does need to be sprayed with an antifungal before too long, preferably within the next 24 hrs if not right away.
I am going to be keeing them in a S.E. window where they will be getting indirect light. I would rather keep them outdoors, and that would be ideal, but Im afraid of bugs right now and I dont have the proper equipment to keep them at bay.

Jackie I will be growing hem for a while and then I will be happy to share them with you guys.
I didnt pay a penny for any of this and I feel incredibly blessed and fortunate to have been given so much by these guys and I plan to pass some of it at the right time, when they are stong enough to travel.
Don....How did I do?

Thank you Don.

Sorry Jackie I missed that. Yes for us it was just those clay pellets and nothing else.

Wow! Great pictures, thank you for sharing them! I wish I had known about the compot before...I deflasked some vandas (which probably could have waiting another few months) a couple years ago, and I didn't know about the compot, so I just put them each in their own pots. I did the same with some catt. crosses. Only 5 of the vandas made it, but they seem to be doing great now. So, I guess compot is the key. That and letting them grow as much as possible in the flask too!

Thanks Swamper, just wanted to know, as I have many different flasks. Just NO Vanda's

BTW, I went to Ruben's site to try to buy some Vanda Flask, but didn't have any luck.
Do you know if we can buy on their site??
