Vanda seedlings
Hi all,
I purchased two seedlings: V. Pure Wax and Ascda Fat Tuesday a month ago.
How long does it usually take for those babies to become "blooming" size? Their leaf spans are approx 10" now.

To me, I would think the Fat Tuesday could flower next season. Ascda can flower off much smaller plants than yours. The Pures Wax might but I would think another year or two under good conditions.

Hmmmmmm. I guess I will be patient.
As for the Fat Tuesday, it was an implusive purchase when I visited a local orchid show and read the article in AOS magazine. I HAD TO HAVE IT.

I live in Portland, OR. The vendor I bought the plants from told me that they got it at WOC in FL.

Here is a pic of a seedling Ascda I flowered a few years ago without any on going problems with the plant. Flowering this size plant is not uncommon.

Hi Mollycart1,
As a general rule, Ascocenda plants bloom smaller and younger than vanda plants, althought there is still a great deal of variance from hybrid to hybrid.
If you could post a photo of your two seedlings, I might be able to provide you with a better guess as to when they will bloom. knowing the leaf span is helpful, but that doesn't give me a complete idea of what the plant looks like.
Thanks, David

Roy, this is very encouraging.... My baby is about that size.
David, I wish I could post the picture. My camera died on me. Orchids or Camera? I choose "orchids."

Mollycart1, as David noted, it does depend on the parents to a degree but strong light does help even though a plant this size should be shaded a lot more.
