Superb Sue, you've picked a great spot for your vanda, been thinking about growing vanda's on my balcony now that the west has move further southwest..
Thanks everybody
I was worried after the not-so-great experience on my first vanda. I think I can now safely assume it was a problem with the plant because it still hasn't changed for the better.
Wendy, I looked it up on Wildcatt and it's been awarded a number of times. At least one of them mentioned "cupped" flowers, so it may or may not change. I'm just thrilled it bloomed!!!
Hey My son Has a Pat's Delight and it opened up about a week ago. I can't believe how big the flowers are. We have it in the GH which is 15 Degrees C at night and about 25 during the day right now but during the summer it got really hot. We have it right under the 400w metal halide bulb and it is really happy. I will post a pic when I figure out how. and Kris emails me the pic.
They are nice... I've seen a few of this cross at shows here in Michigan, so I know they can be grown up here. I'm sure that all vandas do much better in Florida than they ever will here, though. I generally avoid the big vandas in my greenhouse (for space reasons, if nothing else)
