Question How do you grow it?

The Trudelia alpina that I brought home is in a pot with large chunks of bark only. Would this orchid be better growing in other way.....mounted?? I guess it is no longer a true Vanada so I wasn't sure if I should ask this question here.

Thanks for any and all replies....Faz.

Actually the latest studies/DNA support that Trudelias are more closely related to Vandas then any other orchids according to Vanda expert Martin Motes. You can grow your alpina just the way you have it, but I prefer Vanda baskets or mounting ( my Trudelia/Vanda cristata is mounted ) You may have to water more often but the roots get to grow out the bottom of the basket and it is almost impossible to over water them in this mode. As a result, root rot/fungus doesn't happen. Trudelias alpina comes from the Himalayan regions of Nepal so they supposedly can take it a little colder. I have had no problems with Vandas into the 90s ( as long as you water ) or temps in the low fifties.

Thanks for getting back to me. I was thinking along the same lines.....now if I could just locate a wooden or wire basket. Gardening in the northwest is at a standstill so supplies are difficult to locate at the moment.

All the best....Faz.
