Default Gold Ribbon Winners

Hey Folks,

I went to my local orchid society monthly meeting Thursday night, and was stunned towards the end of the evening to discover that I won both of the Special Gold Ribbon awards...one for best in show for species, and the other for best in show hybrids! Both plants were vandaceous, so I'm posting them together here.

It was just amazing to me...and to think that the person designated to choose the plants for the awards is an AOS judge.

In any event, I thought that I'd share my good fortune with you. here are pics of both the whole plants, and close-ups of the blooms (unfortunately, the hall where the meetings are held is not set up too well for photography...perhaps I should fix that ). The photos are posted in this order...and by the way, the Vanda is about 5 feet tall:

Species: Christensonia vietnamica
Hybrid: V. Yuuko Iso-Sumida ‘Ted Sumida’

CONGRATS!!!!
They are gorgeous plants, you really did deserve those awards! You must be sooo pround of your babies.
It's a shame orchid societies are not very developed in France, I would love to participate in shows.

Hi

Your vandas are great. Happy for you. But a 5 ft vanda - wow that must have been quite a job getting it to the meeting. It's as long as a human. Where did you cram it all in the car?

Congratulations!!!!! It's understandable why you won the awards, they both are beautiful and well grown. I also wondered how you managed to transport them. I would be so concerned that they would be damaged.

I love all vandas, but I really like the Christensonia vietnamica. It is so unusual. Can I throw a penny into the lip and make a wish? I wish for a Christensonia vietnamica of my very own.

Marilyn
