My vandas live in a spare bedroom next to a window facing east. They are grown inside a vase and gets a 30 min soak every morning. I give them plenty of sun shine (6000fc- 700fc), air and water. Cheers, Juliet |

Hello,
I really really enjoyed all the pictures. My favorite color is blue.My first time to hear someone grow vanda on a vase.how do you prevent the vase to topple down? BTW, how long do you wait after the bloom is gone to try to give some fertilizer high in potassium?to initiate blooming? sorry for the many questions.very thankful for any thing you can tell me about how you are growing your fantastic vandas. puffy |

This vase culture thing all started for me last year when I read this thread: http://www.orchidboard.com/community...ass-vases.html My vase is pretty big and heavy (approx. 1.5 gallons) so there is no way it will topple over. I have hooks and wires to stops my vanda from falling out. I am not sure when to give vandas a high potassium feed. This is my first blooms and they are still blooming! This may be of some help: http://www.orchidboard.com/node/127 I just fill up the vase everyday or second day with rain water, let it soak for 30mins and feed every week. The fan is always 'on' and the temps are around 32-16 C, depending on the weather. Peter from the Netherlands has given me a tip to initiate spike: try to aim for 8-10C day and night temperature difference. My vandas also gets lots of light from my window (sometimes over 6000fc) in the morning. I am really new to growing orchids, especially vandas but I think I am hooked for life! Just between you and me, I am ordering some more 'warm' growing vandas to try out in the vase. Hehehe. Keep the questions coming, there are some real orchid gurus on the OB!:bowing Cheers, Juliet |

Here is a thread I found to be helpful with growing vanda's in vases. I think I may try it this winter. My problem is, is that some of my vanda's are very large and I don't know if they make a vase large enough to hold the roots. |
hello buds,
the link you gave me is very helpful.I read somewhere about a molasses how it is high in potassium but could not figure it out how and when to use it. wow there is so much to learn. working and all that. But sure is very rewarding to see orchids blooms.Funny, i see my orchids right before i go to work early morning and the last i see before i go to sleep.very addictive.Sometimes i see them in my dreams. isn't it crazy?he he he |
