The one in question I was talking about is Vanda Tharab Blue or (V. Odgen Phipps x V. Coerulea). It usually flowers at least 2-3 times per year, so I didn't think it was that sensitive...sorry if I thread hijacked!

What a wonderful collection. The vanda family along with cats are my favorite and have the most of. I just LOVE the David's Black Pearl (you can put my name on your list) and Marmalade - is absolutely stunning. Is that one Motes also? I have only about 4 or so in bloom now and my V. Pranerm Ornete X V. Tessellata is getting ready to bloom for the second time this year. (one of my favorites) Thanks for the show, really, really enjoyed!

Maybe I am mistaken, but it appeared slightly brownish this morning. How do you keep all of yours so happy when they have to move to a new temporary area?
Hi Jenn,

I moved all of my plants from the shade house and from the pool enclosure area and put them on the patio area, which can be sealed off with hurricane shutters. Most of the cattleyas and dendrobs were put there on Sunday, late afternoon...the phals were already there...that's where they live. The Vandas and other plants were brought in on Monday afternoon before the winds and rains got too bad.

The main thing I did was to make sure that I had good air circulation where the plants were being stored, and I kept them there for as short a period as possible. I did not bother watering them while being store temporarily, as I felt that the ambient humidity in the air was enough. Fortunately I did not lose power, so the two ceiling fans on the patio provided the air circulation the plants needed.

Vandas were moved back out Tuesday afternoon, followed by the catts and others on Wednesday morning. The only thing I can tell I lost at this point was a handful of blooms on one of the catts that had been blooming for a few weeks already...perhaps they were on their way out anyway.

I think that you did a good job with your plants, but I probably would not have bothered misting them while being shut up...without ample air circulation, even a little extra water could be fuel for fungal/bacterial infections. Also, a good hard drying every once in a while is good for your plants, even your Vandas. Hopefully we won't have to deal with this again anytime soon, but when we do, you may want to consider this. I hope it helps.

Hi Don,

You're on the list! Thanks for your comments.

The Crownfox Delicious 'Marmalade' is a clone that I got at RF Orchids. I don't see it on their website anymore, but you might be able to get one if you call them.

Thanks David. I think you are right about not needing to mist. I noticed a little mold on top of some of the other 'chids, but not the vandas. I did lose the spike though. Not sure why, but it started declining before the storm, I think. Hopefully they can be moved back out today or tomorrow as Fay is currently hovering right over central Florida....
