Jasen,

Thanks for your kudos on my vandas. I looked up the parentage on the Motes Burning Sands all the way back to primary hybrids, and this is what I discovered:

Ascda. Motes Burning Sands =
V. lamellata x Ascda. Motes Goldpiece

Ascda. Motes Goldpiece =
V. Filipino x Ascda. Sagarik

V. Filipino =
V. sanderiana x V. Lenavat

V. Lenavat =
V. Joan Rothsand x V. sanderiana

V. Joan Rothsand =
V. Joan Swearingen x V. Onomea

V. Joan Swearingen =
V. luzonica x V. Rothschildiana

V. Onomea =
V. Rothschildiana x V. sanderiana

V. Rothschildiana =
V. coerulea x V. sanderiana

Ascda. Sagarik =
V. sanderiana x Asctm. miniatum

As you can see, you are absolutely correct about the influence of V. sanderiana in this cross. Going back all the way to primary hybrids, Ascda. Motes Burning Sands is 6 parts V. sanderiana (V. Rothschildiana is included twice). Bravo!

Sick...oh no ...I was wondering if you or Jenn would notice this one. I decided to go ahead and provide it with a varietal name rather than call it Sibling #2.

Kat and Paul,

About #7, the Trgl. brachiata...keep an eye open for another photo version of this one, you may see it again somewhere.

They are all beautiful but that V. Erika Cizek Dann 'David's Black Pearl' is fantastic. I also love dark ones. Do you know where one is available? I would love to find one. I'm expanding my hanging area and have room again.

Hi marilyn,

I'm glad that you like the V. Erika Cizek Dann 'David's Black Pearl'. It happens to be my personal favorite as well. It is a one of a kind plant, so right now it is not available anywhere. There are different V. Erika Cizek Danns out there however; I got this one and another from Motes Orchids in Homestead, Fl.

If you are willing to wait a few years, I am planning on seeing about getting mine cloned, as lots of folks are interested in it. I'm also waiting for it to bloom with 2 spikes so I can take it to AOS judging...hoping for an AM or HCC. Time will tell.

So, let me know if you're interested in a clone, and I'll add you to my list.

Okay, that did it! All the Vandas are outside now! After seeing those pics, I had to pull all of mine outside today. They're getting rained on right now. I'm going to be finishing one half of the greenhouse this weekend....the Vanda half! So I'm puttin 'em out until then. I have a 28" V. sanderiana, and a 16" V.sanderiana var alba that are coming into bloom season.....and I don't want to miss them! Thanks for the kick in the tail, that was good motivation!
