I just received a vanda from a friend "the plant lady" at work today. The vanda was in bloom but we were unable to connect for 2 weeks and with being in transit it got tired of waiting for me to enjoy the blooms, but there is always next year. The vanda is very fragrant and when she got it from another orchid lover a few years ago she snapped this it came without an ID. Can I get some ID help?
Cheryl, this plant is NOT a Vanda. I believe it is an Aerides. Possibly either flabellata or houlletiana. It could be a hybrid also, the flowers are not clear enogh to be sure.
Its an excellent plant and flower and if you get sick of it I take it off your hands.
That's Aerides houlletiana! I have seen this plant in person and it has one of the best smell that I've ever tried: sweet and spicy lemon scent. Can't find a word to describe it: breath-taking!!!
omg thanks for setting me straight. Goggled, definitely a great score. It looks, bloom color-wise, like a houlletiana. A new genre to my collection. Will be doing some research, hoping it will like growing indoors, with an option of growing on the patio, only issue is north/west.
I just remember the scent of this species when I accidently smell the Lemongrass that I'm about to use it today. Yes! It's the exact same smell of lemongrass. If you're from Asian, you're probably familiar with this herb. I'm happy now, because at the instant that I smelled the plant, I knew that it was familiar to me.
