I love those dangling roots, Ross! This baby is so sweet.

I have Gastrochilus japonicus, but I've yet to flower it. It has what looks to be three spike 'nubbins' that have just been sitting there waiting for the past 3 or 4 months. Still green, but not growing. Plenty of root growth, though, and a new leaf - so maybe once the leaf has matured the spikes will start to grow out?

Don't know. somai just pops out the spikes in early summer and only takes about a month or so to go from nubbins to what you see in the photo. Those blossoms are on one spike. The second is coming along, but not open yet. It had a leaf maturing while the spikes developed. I also have G. calceolaris and it keeps putting out leaves, a new growth fan and a few roots, but no flower yet (in 2 years - got it same time as somai.) I guess some plants are just persnickety. But I am sure when yours decides to do its thing, it will be a beauty.

*Thanks Ross. I did read your article on front page. Thanks for the info. I only have a poly greenhouse, no inside growing. I probably couldn't grow under present conditions tho I would love to have one.

Hey, Don, why not try one? You have to water in the greenhouse, right? Why not just give this guy some extra? These are too cool to not try

Wow! It is such a beauty! I can't even imagine how gorgeous it will be with all the buds open. And I love the roots too, they're amazing!
